Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders 68 Duluth East Greyhounds 49
Cretin-Cerham Hall started out shooting 0-for-12 and falling behind Duluth East 12-3 at the 11:00 mark. East pounded the offensive boards early on, and eventually built a 13-1 edge in 2nd chance points.
But Junior guard Taylor Montero broke the drought for the Raiders with a 3, and it was off to the races. Seven minutes later, Cretin had made 11-of-12 FG, guards Montero, Cortez Tillman and Raijon Kelly 3 buckets apiece. Suddenly it was 30-19. At the half it was Cretin 33 Duluth East 25.Tillman led all scorers with 10 points.
The 2nd half saw more of the same from Cretin, who hit 7-of-their-1st-12 shots to extend the lead to 56-39 and then 61-41.
In addition to their own hot shooting, they mostly shut down East’s potent guard pair of Johnny Woodward and Taylor Stafford, both juniors. Okay as outside shooters, they really wanted to attack the rim off the dribble, but Cretin’s 2-3 zone made that impossble. Woodward hit several 3s s but otherwise his and the Greyhounds’ outside perimeter shooting was not good enough to mount a real challenge.
Montero finished with 23 points, Tillman 17 and Kelly 13 on combined 20-for-36 shooting. Montero added 13 rebounds.
