Last night, the Gopher men couldn't hold a lead on their home court. Tonight the Gopher women did it on the road, defeating the Northwestern Wildcats 68-60.
Minnesota led from 6-4 and throughout the rest of the game. The largest leads were 37-21 at 1:13 of the 1st half (on a steal and fastbreak layup by Leah Cotton and 43-26 at 17:46 of the 2nd on a steal by Kiara Buford and fastbreak layup by Rachel Banham. The Gophers still led 60-49 at 3:12, but 2 minutes later it was 61-58 and another 30 seconds later it was 63-60. Banham made another fastbreak layup + 1 and then 2 more FT for the final score.
Banham scored 26 points with 3 assists, while Buford had 19 points. Northwestern out-scored the Gophers 50-46 from the field but Minnesota made 22-of-31 FT to 10-of-19 for the Wildcats. The Gophers also scored 18 points off turnovers to 11 for Northwestern.
Next up for the Gophers is Purdue at Williams Arena a week from tonight.
