The Big Game 1-10-12: Big Night for the Visitors

There were 3 games that matched rated high school teams last night.

The #1AAAA Eastview boys took to the road for the 1st of 2 big challenges this week, and knocked off #4AAAA Lakeville North 54-48 as Joey King scored 18 points. Friday the Eagles are at #5AAAA Apple Valley led by sophomore guard Tyus Jones.

The #10A Battle Lake Battlers boys also won on the road at the #6A Ashby Arrows 51-44. The Battlrs led 30-19 at the half. Ashby battled back to tie it at 39, but ran out of gas. Battle Lake was led by Alex Ukkelberg (14 points, 14 rebounds, 9 assists), Tyler Ukkelberg (13 points, 7 rebounds) and Petric Van Erp (11 points, 4 rebounds). Leaders for the Arrows were Riley Mickelson with 18 points and 11 rebounds, Blake Ohren with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks, and Tanner Langlie with 7 points, and 4 rebounds. Jon Quernemoen had 8 assists for the Arrows.

And the #3AAA Richfield Spartans girls made it 3-for-3 for the visitors, knocking off the #4AAA Hill-Murray girls in the Pioneers' fieldhouse 67-48. Richfield took a 40-15 half-time lead and coasted home. Jessica January scored 26 points for Richfield, Tessa Cichy 21 for Hill-Murray.

Player of the Day

It's another 3-way for Player of the Day.

St. Paul Johnson took on #7AAAA Eden Prairie without guard Marcus Marshall last night, and lost at home 66-65. Wayland Johnson II stepped up for the Governors, scoring 30 points.

Sean Scott also scored 30 as #4AAA Spring Lake Park took yet another road win at Totino-Grace 84-69.

Finally, a win at home, as the new Duluth East Greyhounds were unveiled in a 95-52 win over Esko. Johnny Woodard, in his 2nd game back from injury, scored 33 for  East. Guard Taylor Stafford added 26. And 6-10 post Akolda Manyang scored 11 in his 1st game.

Coach of the Day

Mark Gerber of the Eastview boys is still having the best year, but Vern Simmons of St. Paul Johnson probably got the most out of his kids on this particular date.
