32 Minnesota high school boys teams have now earned their way to next week's state tournament. Pairings will be announced today. ALL FOUR CLASSES WILL SEED THE TOP 4, and then assign opponents by a random draw.
The seeds ought to be as follows, IMHO (these are not the official seeds, this is how I see it). I will update this with the real seeds as soon as I can, but I will be away from the computer most of today.
Class AAAA
1. Eastview 28-1
2. Hopkins 28-1
3. Lakeville North 28-1
4. Osseo 27-2
A top-heavy field. Hopkins drops to #2 as Zach Stahl is declared ineligible due to an undisclosed violation of an MSHSL rule. Also in the field: Duluth East 20-8, Eden Prairie 22-7, Moorhead 18-9 and Woodbury 24-5. Who's going to pull an upset? Nobody.
The matchup everybody wants to see: Whomever vs. Duluth East.
Class AAA
1. Mpls. Washburn 27-2
2. DeLaSalle 23-5
3. Grand Rapids 24-5
4. Austin 23-5
St. Paul Johnson 20-8 is the next threat. Who's going to pull an upset? Anyone could including Detroit Lakes 22-7, Mankato East 25-4, Rocori 18-11 and Johnson 20-8.
The matchup everybody wants to see: Washburn-Johnson would be a repeat of the Twin City Game, won by Washburn 90-89.
Class AA
1. Perham 27-2
2. St. Peter 28-1
3. Watertown-Mayer 28-2
4. Litchfield 24-5
They also ran: Esko 25-4, Plainview EM 24-6, St. Croix Lutheran 28-2, Worthington 21-6. Not really looking for many upsets here.
The matchup everybody wants to see: Well, you'll have to wait for the semis for anything in this category. Esko is the most likely upset winner.
Class A
1. Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 30-0
2. SW MN Christian 26-1
3. Rushford Peterson 24-5
4. Prairie Seeds 23-2
Also in the field Browerville 27-2, Fosston 24-4, Lakeview Christian 25-5 and Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin 24-5. Browerville and Lakeview could pull an upset, depending on the draw.
The matchup everybody wants to see: Lakeview and Anders Broman vs. whomever. Lakeview-Prairie Seeds would possibly be a 100 point game for the winner (200 for both).
