The Big Game Feb. 1--Friday Night Lights

It was a big night for high school ball. I cannot pick just one Big Game from among:

Apple Valley boys 83 Bloomington Kennedy 76 as Tyus Jones scores 40
Edina boys 81 Minnetonka 73 as Graham Woodward scores 41
Moorhead boys 95 Brainerd 93 as Aaron Lien scored 53
Litchfield boys 60 Delano 49

Eastview girls 73 Lakeville North 55
Richfield girls 63 Simley 37
New London-Spicer girls 73 Mound-Westonka 53 as Taylor Thunstedt scores 37
Chaska girls 66 Red Wing 56 despite Tesha Buck's 26 points
Tartan girls 90 Mahtomedi 60 as Tia Elbert scores 49
New Richland-Heartland-Ellendale-Geneva girls 92 Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 38 as Carlie Wagner scores 32

So, after much consideration:

Game of the Day: The game I wish I had seen would have to be the Moorhead-Brainerd  boysgame. The Spuds (10-5) won it on a last-second shot and thereby gave the Warriors (14-1) their 1st and currently their only loss of the season.

Team of the Day: Richfield girls, #3AAA, now 16-3, after a 63-37 demolition of #10AAA and 16-5 Simley. Jessica January scored 26 for Richfield.

Player of the Day: Aaron Lien, Moorhead, scored 53, a school record (breaking John Kaeding's almost 50-year-old record of 44) but also a Fargo-Moorhead area record (breaking Jake Driscoll's record of 51).

Coach of the Day: Tara Seifert, Chaska girls. The Hawks, #4AAA in the polls, were only 1 spot higher in their own conference, in 3rd, going into tonight, but moved up by knocking off 2nd place (#8AAA-rated)  Red Wing 66-56.
